A Visit to Totley's Journey to Bethlehem.
This teatime Phil and I have experienced the most amazing presentation we have ever seen in a church, never mind a Methodist Church, when we were travellers on the Journey to Bethlehem. We were guided by Caspar, who introduced us to wise men in the School of Astronomy, who in turn explained about a very special star, then we were led into Mary's room and witnessed the appearance of the Angel Gabriel. Following this we entered Joseph's workshop and witnessed the appearance of the Angel to him and his reaction. We were then led to the Inn where we met the innkeeper, his wife and children and were served with refreshments of the time. From there we entered Bethlehem Market Place, registered in the census, learned how to make braid, stars out of cane and sampled breads and fruits of the first century. Next we met the shepherds sitting around their fire outside in their field, and they led us to the stable following the star and we found the child (a real baby) lying in his manger. Finally we burst into the 21st century where the relevance of the story to the present day was explained and we were given hangings for our trees and there were books for the children. The afternoon wound up with hospitality - mulled wine etc. All this voluntarily provided, no charge, no donations, no requests. What an outreach! Over 1000 are booked on the tours and will pass through their church this weekend. Let us pray that the weather does not develop to the extent that tomorrow's tours must be cancelled as so much work, preparation, generosity and commitment has gone into this. Well done Totley Rise Methodist Church!! And God bless you
